Religious Education Plan for the 2020-21 School Year
In person and at home learning are available
Please note that all Religious Education programs in the Diocese of Joliet will follow the lead of the Catholic schools regarding in person learning. Thus, if the diocese decides that all catholic schools are to move to eLearning only, then religious education will do the same.
We have sought to design our program to allow for a seamless transition should this event take place.
Class Dates & Times
All classes will begin September 29th
In person classes will he held on Tuesdays from 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm the date and times for online instruction will be determined by the catechist
Orientation & Picking up Textbooks
There will be an open house on September 15th at 6:30 pm. The purpose of this will be for parents to pick up text books, meet teachers, and for in person learners to see their classroom and review expectations of learning under COVID-19 guidelines.
Grades 1, 3, 4, & 5 will be using the Discover! series from St. Mary's Press.
The online learning platform for this series will have the child engage in 20 different interactive eLearning modules over the course of the year. Each module is to be done independently of the Catechist and take only 15 - 20 minutes of time to complete. The catechist's role will be to make sure the children are doing their work and then have a zoom meeting with all the children about twice a month to discuss what they have been learning.
This eLearning option allows the child to have the independence of a self-directed experience while under the guidance and support of a catechist.
Grade 2 will continue to use the Blessed Series for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This is a video based series that is accompanied by a student workbook to help reinforce learning. Because the videos are available on the internet, it can easily be used for either in person or at home learning under the direction of a catechist
Grade 6 will be using the Catholicism 101 eLearning mini-course supplemented by the Catholic Connection series from St. Mary's Press. At home learners will especially be using the interactive modules of the Catholicism 101 program for self-directed learning and then have follow up sessions with a catechist and the other members of their class.
Grades 7 & 8 will be using the Catholic Connections Series from St. Mary's Press supplemented with content from other programs including Decision Point, Chosen and other learning modules from the Credible Catholic website. This will be made adaptable to either an in person or at home learning experience.
