CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK OPEN HOUSE
Catholic Schools Week is a time of the year that we take to show off our school to our current and prospective families. We do so much and are proud of the wonderful things that our children do, not only in the classroom, but also in church, hallways, outside of school, and on the courts and playing fields.
We hope that you are able to come to our open house this Sunday (9-1) to see all of the wonderful things that will be on display in the classroom or gym. Please also invite neighbors, friends, or family members to see our school.
We are looking for volunteers to help with the welcome tables (food and drinks) and to help give tours of the building. You can sign up for either position. For those interested in giving tours, we do have a document that has talking points for you.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
During the week of Catholic Schools Week we will have things going on each day to help celebrate our students, our school, and our faith. Here is the breakdown of the week:
Sunday: Open House (9-1)
Monday: Mismatch Monday – students and staff are encouraged to wear mismatched clothing. This is an out of uniform day. This is also Muffin Monday. The Student Council will deliver these tasty treats to each homeroom before school.
Tuesday: Eucharistic Adoration for our students. Students should be in their uniforms.
Wednesday: OLP Spirit Day – wear OLP spirit wear or your gym uniform (no shorts). Students can wear sweat or athletic pants. Each grade level will participate in spirit day activities in the gym during their designated time period.
Thursday: Pajama Day – wear your favorite pair of pajamas to school and donate a non-perishable food item to our food pantry. Culver’s Custard Day with Buddies!
Friday: Catholic Schools Week Mass (8:30). Dress up day – students can dress up in nice clothing for the day. No jeans, athletic pants, or gym shoes.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK INCENTIVE PROGRAM
Students can earn up to three out of uniform passes for participating in the incentive program. Just by wearing their school uniform during the month of January to Mass or church services they can earn these passes. If they wear their uniform two weekends, they will be able to be out of uniform on February 8th. If they have done all three weeks in January they will also receive an out of uniform pass. Finally, the class that has the highest percentage of students that have at least two weekends, will earn a class out of uniform day. Please be sure to turn in the out of uniform incentive form by Friday, February 2nd.
HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
The Father/Son Event at Westmont Yard is February 9th (6:30-8:30). The deadline to turn in the registration form is Friday, February 2nd. Also, don’t forget that there are Super Bowl squares available for purchase. There are two separate boards ($10 and $20).
2018-2019 SCHOOL CALENDAR
As you begin to plan for the next school year, I wanted to let you know that the Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools Office is planning for the teachers to attend the National Catholic Education Association’s conference on April 23rd and 24th. These two days off will replace the teacher institute days that the Catholic Schools Office usually plans for before Columbus Day. We will be in school the Thursday (10/4) and Friday (10/5) before Columbus Day. We will be off on Columbus Day (10/8).
The 2018-2019 school calendar will be available later this spring.
We are asking that all current families that are interested in registering a child into Pre-Kindergarten three year olds to apply using the registration form found on School Speak. Current OLP families have the first option for these classes. Please have these registration forms turned into the school office by Friday, February 9th to secure your spot in the Pre-K three year old program.
Registration for current students moving from one grade level to the next, will open up next week.
COLD AND FLU SEASON
Just like many schools in the area, we have had students miss school time because of sickness. We ask that you keep your child home if s/he has symptoms such as: sore throat, runny nose, rash, nausea and vomiting, and/or inflamed or discharging eyes. Also, students should be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications before they return to school.
At school, we are encouraging hand washing, the use of hand sanitizer, and teaching the proper way to cough/sneeze. We are also trying to wipe down desks/table tops and door handles as often as possible.
WATERLEAF BABY BOTTLES
The students were given baby bottles last week to fill with loose change. The money raised will go to Waterleaf which is a non-profit agency that provides vital support and resources for pregnant women that need help. The bottles should be returned by February 5th.
LIBRARY HELP NEEDED
Mrs. Reher is in great need of a library volunteer for first grade. The library session would be on Fridays (1:05-1:40). If you are unable to do it every week, you could alternate with another person. Please contact the school office if you are willing to help (630-325-9220).
CATHOLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION
The application process is now open for the Catholic Education Foundation grants. This grant is for financial need. The application process is open through March 1st and can be accessed through https://online.factsmgt.com/aid. Last year, we had 16 students from OLP receive $11,200 in tuition assistance.
ILLINOIS TAX CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The state of Illinois has created a tax credit program for those individuals and corporations to donate to scholarship granting organizations (SGO) and receive a tax credit on their state taxes. The SGO will use this money to grant scholarships to qualifying students. An individual or corporation will receive a 75% credit on their donation. This means that if a donor were to donate $10,000, they will receive a tax credit of $7,500. Donations are now being accepted. It is recommended that if you plan on donating for this tax credit that you register at mytaxillinois.gov. It may take up to 10 business days for approval. Individuals can choose the school that they would like their donation to go to and we would love it if you would choose Our Lady of Peace School.
Families can apply for this scholarship money beginning on January 31st at noon, please not that this is a new date. The scholarship is based on financial need. These scholarships are open to current as well as incoming families to Our Lady of Peace School.
The Diocese of Joliet has created a website, weteachmore.org, that will help you through the process of donating for the tax credit or applying for the scholarship. You can also call the school office and speak with Mr. Wilkinson, our principal (630-325-9220).
